2013 Oscars – Anne Hathaway Wins Best Supporting Actress + Doesn’t Bother Acting Surprised [VIDEO]

As even our pet rocks predicted, Anne Hathaway won the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for her portrayal of Fantine in ‘Les Miserables.’

It’s okay when they give Dame Judi Dench an Oscar for barely appearing in a film — look up ‘Shakespeare In Love’ — but she’s a Dame. We aren’t sure it’s cool if the actress hasn’t been recognized by the Queen.

For her role, Anne Hathaway cut off her hair and cried while she sang and then she was done. It’s possible the Academy – while not surprising us at all – may have disappointed us just a bit.

To Hathaway’s credit, she didn’t bother with the pretend shock and did appear to be humbled in her speech. (Maybe she IS the best of all the supporting actresses.)

She’d obviously been dreaming about the moment, judging by her breathless utterance of, “It came true.” She was gracious enough to follow that up with a gracious nod to her fellow nominees, saying sincerely, “I look up to you all so much.”

She gave a textbook good Oscar speech, thanking fellow cast members and crew, along with her “team.” We appreciate her gratitude, but still wonder if her team wasn’t just a long list of stray French prostitutes she’s rescued.

We would’ve rather listened to Sally Field talk, but Anne did bring her own brand of cuteness when she told her husband that the greatest moment of her life was when he walked into it. She ended with an inspirational reference to the plot of her nominated film, saying, “Here’s hoping that someday, in the not too distant future, the misfortunes of Fantine will only be found in stories and nevermore in real life.”

A clean speech and a graceful acceptance, even if we think the Academy chose poorly.
