The grand opening of the 6x6@110 is tonight at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 6. At that time, the Gallery Main Street will open its doors to the public.

Attendees will have 30 minutes to look at all the canvasses. At 6:30 p.m., a horn will blow, signaling participants that pieces may be pulled from the wall and purchased.

Each canvass is $20, with all proceeds going back to supporting the arts in Downtown Tyler. The sale and exhibit will continue through June on a first come, first serve basis, with the exception of the silent auction pieces.

“We feel that 6x6@110 meets our mission while providing funding so we can continue to promote the arts and revitalize Downtown Tyler,” said Beverly Abell of the City of Tyler Main Street Department. “It’s a great blending of mission and necessity.”

The 6x6@110 began in 2012 as a fundraiser project for the City of Tyler Main Street Department and won The Texas Downtown Association’s Promotional Event of the Year award in 2014.

The Main Street Department operates the Gallery, hosts arts events, promotes public art and builds participation in the arts in the Downtown area as part of its mission. Though the department is part of the City of Tyler, staff and volunteers must fundraise a significant portion of the annual Main Street program budget.

Volunteers and staff have spent the past few days tagging each canvas, organizing them by color family and hanging each piece individually on the Gallery’s walls. Several pieces have been selected for a silent auction, with bidding scheduled to continue through the month.

Gallery Main Street is a project of the City of Tyler Main Street Department in cooperation with the volunteers of the Downtown Tyler Arts Coalition and Heart of Tyler, Inc. The Gallery opens a new juried fine art exhibit approximately every eight weeks.
