An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but for Adele, several packs a day serve as a singer's best medicine.

The 25 singer, who famously smoked 25 cigarettes a day at the peak of her addiction, told Canada's eTalk that she's become an inferior singer since quitting less than a year ago.

"The people with the best voices, they always smoke," she said, adding that she can't quite hit the same notes that once came easily. "I've given up smoking and I'm convinced that's made my voice weaker."

Adele said she acknowledges the health merits of quitting, and that she's glad her fingers "ain't orange anymore," but said she misses it anyway. She got particularly intense cravings while recording "All I Ask" with Bruno Mars last year.

"Bruno smokes like an old woman," she revealed.

Adele first admitted to The Mirror in December 2015 that she'd stopped smoking out of fear she'd be her own undoing. Boy George had previously and famously urged her to quit in 2011, and said he'd falsely convinced himself that his own addiction had made him sound "jazzier."

"If I'd carried on smoking, I'd probably have died from a smoking-related illness, and I think that's really bad," Adele said. "If I was dying from lung cancer I would have potentially given it to myself and that wouldn't be something I'd be proud of."
