Candice Glover Wows ‘American Idol’ Judges With Paula Abdul’s ‘Straight Up’

Tonight’s episode of ‘American Idol’ (April 17) kicked off on a striking note – literally. Candice Glover blew away judges Keith Urban, Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson and Nicki Minaj with her delivery of Paula Abdul’s ‘Straight Up.’

As always, Glover put forth a passionate, soulful performance that made it all look so easy. Minaj praised her for putting her own spin on the tune, and Urban just couldn’t get enough of her graceful runs. “It’s like the slow wink one gets across a bar,” he said. “It’s so effortless for you and you really, really set the bar high for the other girls tonight.”

Minaj was also sure to give Glover props for coming back for another try at ‘Idol’ after not making it last season. “You kept on pushing on, and I love strong women, so my hat is off to you just for that alone,” she said.

Carey called it a “genius” song choice, and Jackson pointed out that he was happy to see her letting loose and having fun.

Glover really seemed to be in her element tonight, but it's up to America to decide if she'll be the next 'American Idol.' What did you think of the performance?
