The day started off on a rocky note for ‘American Idol’ contestants Charlie Askew, Curtis Finch Jr. and Charles Mathis, due to Askew battling a sickness. But the group pulled through and delivered a passionate and impressive rendition of Bruno Mars’ ‘The Lazy Song,’ receiving a standing O from the judges.

“It taught me to have good sportsmanship,” said Mathis of the minor setback caused by Askew’s illness. “When Charlie was sick, you know, we looked out for him, ‘cause he was down at the moment.”

Their sense of camaraderie and teamwork shined through their performance as well. Their harmonies were flawless throughout the entire song – but Finch Jr. was the one who really stood out, finishing with an exaggerated falsetto that brought all four 'Idol' judges to their feet.

As Keith Urban, Randy Jackson and Mariah Carey whooped and cheered, Nicki Minaj threw a salute to the talented trio. “Wow, we needed that right now, today, in this moment!” exclaimed Jackson. “You’re all through, yes – Congratulations!”

The three singers refused to let that hiccup earlier in the day break their stride, and now they're proudly moving on to the next leg of 'American Idol.'
