Calling all Civil War buffs! Tyler is celebrating “Heritage Days” this Saturday, May 19. The Tyler Parks and Recreation Department has brought “Heritage Days” to Tyler for the past four years. The event takes place on the beautiful grounds of the 1859 Goodman-LeGrand House and Museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is free.
Collin Boyd, who is eight years old and attends Owen Elementary in Bullard loves baseball. But recently Collin has had to deal with more than any 8-year-old should have to. Collin is suffering from undifferentiated soft tissue sarcoma. I can barely spell it, much less say it.
WOW! A lioness at the Oregon Zoo thought she found herself the perfect meal, a little baby Zebra! But, the little baby Zebra turned out to be a 13 -month-old baby named Jack. The lioness seems very intent on either playing with, or eating the baby!

The Veteran’s and Community Roundtable of Tyler organization is working to make Tyler even more of a veteran-friendly place by offering veterans entrepreneurial, health and welfare related opportunities.
I couldn’t believe what I was reading today about a black ninth grader from Fairfax County, Va. The student, Jordan Shumate, was allegedly asked by his ninth grade English teacher, Marilyn Bart, to read a poem aloud by the African American writer Langston Hughes, and then insisting he read it in a “blacker” manner. What? Keep in mind that this student is the only black student in the class.
I’m always praying for our military troops who are protecting us and fighting for our freedoms. This time of year, we should all thank them for the sacrifices they make everyday. It’s always a joy when those who unselfishly serve this country, can be home with their families. After more than 214 days at sea, the crew of the HMS Ocean is headed back home just in time for Christmas! Boy are they in the Christmas spirit! Enjoy this creative and heart-warming video.
