VAN ZANDT Co. – A shooting at an illegal cockfight in Van Zandt County has left one person dead.
Henderson County Sheriff’s office responded to a call at East Texas Medical Center in Athens in reference to a 21 year old who male who was brought in with a fatal gunshot wound.
Investigators determined the victim, Luis Rodriguez was shot during an argument at a chicken fight on FM 1861 in Van Zandt County.
Numerous roosters along with fighting paraphernalia were seized at the location with assistance of the S.P.C.A of Texas.
The Texas Rangers are assisting Van Zandt County Authorities with the investigation. No arrest have been made.

Seven People Named in Health Care Fraud Scheme
DALLAS – Seven people have been named in a health care fraud scheme including the owner of a medical service provider.
The federal indictment alleges the defendants bilked Medicare and Medicaid of nearly $375 million for more than five years beginning in January 2006.
The indictment names Jacque Roy, a doctor who owned Medistat Group Associates in Desoto and alleges he led a scheme that billed Medicare for home health care services that were not medically necessary or were not done.

Salon Owner Now Jailed in Tyler
A Tyler Beauty Salon owner charged with illegally performing breast augmentations is back in Tyler after she was arrested in Harrison County last week.
39 year old Carmel Foster-Alexander is accused of injecting two people with some kind of substance to augment their breasts, and one person, Sheena Bradford of Longview, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
