Jen Austin

It's fun to pick on the boys in the office, fun to play music, and fun to talk to you all day at work. Thanks for listening! I grew up in a one-stoplight town in rural Nebraska. My whole family still lives there and I love going back to visit them, but I also love Texas. Barbecue, fajitas, and great live music....it's the place to be. I've lived in Texas for 16 years now. Austin, Dallas, and here. I've worked in radio from the moment I graduated from college. (The University of Nebraska...Go Huskers!) I've been on a hundred stations at one point or another. I just love radio. Other things I love....let's see. Blue ink. Black bores me a bit. I love cheddar cheese and barbecue sauce and anything that the two happen to touch. I fall asleep in almost every movie I attempt to watch I have made it through Eat, Pray, Love and Mr. Wright. I like chick flicks. I have an awesome family and love spending time with them. You'll probably hear me talk about my daughters on the air. They're toddler girls who exhaust me, crack me up, and amaze me because I don't think I was ever that smart. I have two miniature schnauzers too. Thanks for stopping by. Now tell me about you.

Texas Woman Scammed, Buys Fake iPad

Something to keep in mind as the holidays approach: People are selling things everywhere! They're even trying to sell iPads at gas stations. But it doesn't always turn out to be legit.

A Texas woman was scammed out of $200 after a man approached her at a gas station and asked if she wanted to buy "an iPad worth $800 for $200." Apple hasn't even shipped the highest-priced iPads yet, with retail price ranging from $629 to $829, but if you're at a gas station pumping gas, you probably have other things on your mind besides retail releases and ship dates. Did the scammer get caught?

With Veterans Day Sunday, Events Held Through the Weekend

Perhaps your neighbors have flags flying on the front of their house right now. Mine do. I've noticed the flags flying at some East Texas businesses that don't normally have them out too.

With Veterans Day on Sunday several events are being held today at area high schools, including programs at Kilgore ISD, Hallsville ISD, Pine Tree ISD, and Spring Hill ISD. Schools are having programs, and in some cases incorporating the ceremonies into high school football games tonight. What else is happening?

University of Houston Player Critical after Freak Injury

Doctors say it was a freak injury that they don't usually see in football.

University of Houston cornerback DJ Hayden collided with another player in practice Tuesday, and the force of the hit tore a vein that carries blood from the lower half of the body back to the heart. The injury is considered to be 95 percent fatal.

Thanksgiving Doesn’t Always Mean a Day Off

What's your family tradition on Thanksgiving Day?

For many of us, Thanksgiving means getting up early to put the turkey in, smelling the aroma of baking turkey and coffee-brewing while watching parades all morning, then expecting family to arrive promptly at 11am. The rest of the day is all about grazing over piles of turkey and green casserole and putting black olives on our fingertips to make puppets, and then watching the Cowboys on TV. That's what my family does and I thought perhaps you could relate.

Will you be asked to work on Thanksgiving Day? Heaven forbid! But more and more bosses are expecting it!

Holiday Market Starts Thursday in Tyler

Stats say that at this point in November, about half of us have already begun our holiday shopping. Somewhere in the house we have a box of gifts already stashed away, and many of us started picking up the gifts even before Halloween to stay ahead of the game. Call us crazy, but we consider ourselves geniuses cuz we're not hit with the Christmas bills all at once. It's just effective planning!

There's a great opportunity beginning today in Tyler to do a little holiday shopping at the Holiday Market. It is the largest fundraiser for Junior League of Tyler, the community-service organization of women. You'll be able to find lots of great gifts to stash away, and some things for yourself too.

Pregnant Woman Votes, Then Has Baby

If you didn’t vote yesterday or during the early voting period in Texas, what was your excuse? Was it because you couldn’t find the time, or because the voting precincts were too far out of your way? Maybe voting was just too big of a hassle. Well take the unbelievable efforts of these folks into consideration.

There was a woman in Illinois who was about to have a baby – she was having contractions – and she stopped to vote on the way to the hospital. Feel bad now?

Was Jerry Jones Locked Out of the Cowboys Locker Room?

Wives sometimes complain that husbands sink into a terrible funk after a Dallas Cowboys loss. They don't talk much, they're grumpy, they snap and get sassy when asked a simple question.... Goodness. The Cowboys lose and it can take a family a day or two to get back to normal. May be a week, until the 'Boys can get on the field and win again.

Did you hear Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was locked out of the locker room after the loss in Atlanta Sunday night? The word is he didn't take the loss well. He was seen banging on the door, but he couldn't get in. Oh dear. Would you have the nerve to lock out the boss?

Dark Nail Polish is ‘It’ for Fall

Lady Gaga's nails have become part of her persona. They might be painted black, they might be extra long, they might be pointy and sharp. But they will be SOMETHING. They won't be boring, filed off, and plain.

If the rest of us don't want to venture as far out on that limb as Gaga (after all we don't have a stage to perform on, and we might look funny at school or at the office), what IS a good color for fall for us?

East Texas Thief Caught Um…Red-Lipped

1. It's not a good idea to rob a house.

2. If you're going to rob a house it's probably not a good idea to help yourself to the Chef Boyardee Ravioli in the cabinet before you leave.

This happened in Lakeport, south of Longview and east of Kilgore recently and the story has made it from local TV all the way to the Huffington Post.
