Jen Austin

It's fun to pick on the boys in the office, fun to play music, and fun to talk to you all day at work. Thanks for listening! I grew up in a one-stoplight town in rural Nebraska. My whole family still lives there and I love going back to visit them, but I also love Texas. Barbecue, fajitas, and great live music....it's the place to be. I've lived in Texas for 16 years now. Austin, Dallas, and here. I've worked in radio from the moment I graduated from college. (The University of Nebraska...Go Huskers!) I've been on a hundred stations at one point or another. I just love radio. Other things I love....let's see. Blue ink. Black bores me a bit. I love cheddar cheese and barbecue sauce and anything that the two happen to touch. I fall asleep in almost every movie I attempt to watch I have made it through Eat, Pray, Love and Mr. Wright. I like chick flicks. I have an awesome family and love spending time with them. You'll probably hear me talk about my daughters on the air. They're toddler girls who exhaust me, crack me up, and amaze me because I don't think I was ever that smart. I have two miniature schnauzers too. Thanks for stopping by. Now tell me about you.

Sandy Scammers Are Already Out To Make a Buck

Surely karma will take care of these folks.

There are reports (and maybe you've seen the posts) that people on Facebook and other social media sites are claiming to be storm victims when they're not. Those folks are asking for money right along with legitimate hurricane relief efforts, generating sympathy, and in some cases making a buck.

To Burn Off the Candy Corn, The Workout is HOW Long?

One of those evil yet delicious creations around the office this time of year is the candy corn/dry roasted peanut mixture. Oh my. Do you have it at your desk? Yum! Whoever started it was a borderline genius. It's sweet and salty. It's crunchy and chewy. It's got all the culinary opposites that your mouth tells you it needs and of course, does not. But I digress.

If you've popped some handfuls of candy corn today or this Halloween season, how long does it take to burn it off? We have some working out to do. I'll give you a hint. To burn off one handful of candy corn - just ONE handful - we've got to walk longer than 30 minutes. Oh dear.

Dallas Mavericks Kick off Season Tonight

The season opener tonight for the Dallas Mavericks may not look like a typical season opener for the Mavs. Cuz there's no Dirk! When we think of the Mavs we think of Dirk Nowitzki. But he's still recovering from knee surgery and won't play tonight as the Mavs take on the Lakers in Los Angeles.

Tyler Kids Can Trade Halloween Candy for a Toy

Over the next couple of days the kids will get piles and piles of candy, so much in fact that they could never possibly eat it all. Some dentists in Tyler hope they don't!

Here’s How East Texans Can Help Those Affected By Hurricane Sandy

The weather in Tyler is just fine, so it's hard to imagine exactly how bad it is right now on the East Coast as Hurricane Sandy makes her way into New York and New Jersey. There are blizzard warnings in places like West Virginia, because Sandy is mixing with a winter storm there, and meteorologists say that's the first time in history a storm like that has been created - hurricane meets winter storm. And we look out the window and see nothing of the sort. Wanna help those who need it?

The American Red Cross says there are blood drives up and down the Eastern Seaboard that are being cancelled because of Hurricane Sandy, and they're advising those of us in areas that are unaffected by the hurricane to donate if we're able.

It was all about the pups on Saturday at Bergfeld Park in Tyler at the 14th Annual Pets in the Park event.

‘Password’ is Not a Good Password

We have passwords for everything these days, and it's tempting to pick an easy one so it will be top of mind when we're prompted for it.

But it turns out, the hackers are onto us. For example, using the word "password" for your actual password is not a good idea at all. Surprise, surprise. And the names Ashley, Michael, and Jesus are not fooling the hackers, for whatever reason.

What are some other terrible passwords that open the door to hackers?
