With school out, babysitting is a good summer job for teens. After you read this, you might want to quit your adult day job and find a babysitting gig instead! The pay ain’t too shabby.

Fifty years ago, babysitters might have earned a dollar or so any hour, and then in the 70′s and 80′s prices started to rise. How much are babysitters earning now?

According to UrbanSitter, a babysitter location website, the going rate across the US for child care services is $12.75 an hour. If you have a job that pays the minimum wage of $7.25 does that make you wonder why you get up and go to work every day?

I’ve always heard parents should pay at least $5 per hour per child. So with three kids, that gives me a $15 per hour bill. That’s why we don’t go to the movies much.

Parents won’t trust just anybody with their kids, and trustworthy people come at a premium it appears. Often babysitters have certifications and training to make them more qualified and worthy of the extra change.

Do you think East Texas is higher, lower, or right at the US average for babysitting pay? Are we paying $12.75 in Tyler? What about Jacksonville, Whitehouse, and Palestine?
