Bergfeld Park Wins Lone Star Legacy Award
Bergfeld Park is not only a popular destination for local Tylerites and visitors, but also a piece of history that has now been recognized as a Lone Star Legacy Park.
This award is the highest honor bestowed upon a park by the Texas Recreation and Parks Society (TRAPS) Institute. The parks that are chosen for this award have stood the test of time and maintain a special prominence in the community.
Bergfeld Park has both a Local and National Landmark designation, and the city council recently accepted a $75,000 donation from Grace Community and Green Acres Church on behalf of children from Gospel Village Mentoring to purchase new equipment and re-develop the playground in the park.
“This donation really shows how important this park is to the citizens of Tyler,” said Parks
Director Stephanie Rollings.
A Master Plan was drawn up in November 2013 by MHS Planning and Design of Tyler to improve the park.
