Samuel Mouton Wins Judges Over With Bob Marley’s ‘Redemption Song’ on ‘The Voice’

Tonight on the third round of blind auditions of 'The Voice,' 19-year-old Samuel Mouton surprised everyone with his smooth reggae vocals. The preppy looking pizza cooker had three judges turn their chairs during his pitch perfect rendition of Bob Marley's 'Redemption Song.' 

Before he stepped onto the stage, Mouton spoke a bit about himself, explaining that his father was in a reggae band when he was younger and how he fell in love with Bob Marley's music as a kid. At first, it was quite surprising that the Colorado native would be tackling reggae-style vocals,  but as he explained, "This show is perfect for me because I sound different than I look. I like the surprise factor."

In his leather jacket, checkered button-up shirt and backwards baseball cap, Mouton had Adam Levine turn his chair literally a nanosecond into his version of 'Redemption Song.' He has such a cool, mellow sound and his voice moves with ease between whispery, softer notes and louder, stronger tones. He hit all the right notes, and was also able to get Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera to hit their red buttons, as well.

After Mouton's soothing vocal performance, Cee Lo Green was passionate in his team pitch: "I can tell you have intently listened to Bob Marley ... It sounded like you adopted [the song] as your own. It's become you." Aguilera was also quite convincing, getting a little sexy on us: "I'd love to get to know you, to see what your turn-ons are." We thought Green actually had it in the bag, but Mouton once again surprised us when he chose Adam as his coach.

It'll be interesting to see how Mouton's voice transitions to other types of genres, but with the Maroon 5 frontman as his mentor, we doubt he'll have any trouble.
