When the man behind Breaking Bad's Walter White says something dark is on the horizon, except nothing short of an eclipse.

Bryan Cranston, who will play benevolent floating head Zordon in the 2017 Power Rangers reboot, said in a Huffington Post interview today (July 5) that the movie will be "unrecognizable" from the TV series that aired in the early '90s. He explained the shift will be tantamount to Batman's evolution from TV to The Dark Knight — definitely darker than its predecessor, though maybe not as intense as Bruce Wayne's adapted story.

"At first I was, to be honest with you, I was reticent to looking at the role because I remember the television series was kind of farcical and silly and ‘pow’ and ‘zow’ — weird movements and things like that," he said.

"I wasn’t really high on it until I talked to the producer and read the script and talked to the director. After that I went, ‘This is different.'...It’s unrecognizable for the most part. There are tenets of the folklore that you hold onto for sure, but the inspiration is different, and the sensibility of it, and the approach to the film making is completely different."

The Power Rangers movie, which also stars Elizabeth Banks and Becky G, will hit theaters in March. Cranston has previously voiced some of the Power Rangers' televised villains, a gig he told IGN in 2009 paid about $50 an hour. He deemed the rate "fantastic."
