Bullied Bus Moniter Creates Anti-Bullying Foundation [VIDEO]

When the video of 68-year-old Karen Klein being bullied by middle school students went viral, people from all over the country reached out to help. And now, the bullied bus monitor is returning the favor.

The video posted to YouTube on June 19, where it received more than 8 million views, showed students from upstate New York hurling profanities and insults onto her and jabbing her with a book. The sweet elderly grandmother sits there taking it, even bursting into silent tears at one point.

The video angered people across the nation, which prompted one man to start a campaign to raise $5,000 to send the bus monitor on a much needed vacation. The campaign took off and over 32,000 people donated to the fund. The campaign exceeded all expectations and raised over $700,000 for her. Instead of keeping all of that to herself, she has decided to do something honorable with it.

Now retired, Karen Klein has decided to start her own campaign, called the Karen Klein Anti-Bullying Foundation, on the website giveback.org. “This is for education, for people who have been bullied,” Klein said. She has made her daughter Amanda the administrator for the foundation. She told the press that her mother will donate $100,000 to kick start the foundation.

The Klein Anti-Bullying Foundation will provide funding to various organizations and charities for anti-bullying causes. The foundation officially kicks off in October when Karen Klein, Miss Teen USA Logan West, and Miss Universe Leila Lopes of Angola start a weekly anti-bullying tour.

“The goal of the anti-bullying campaign is to help teach kids and teens about being kind, friendly and playing nicely with others,” Klein says in a video on the foundation’s website. “Because of my own personal bullying story, I’ve now decided to become an advocate of change.”
