It made sense that Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum would parlay their Step Up past into an NBC dance competition, but their next TV venture is a trifle more direct. YouTube (yes, YouTube) has officially ordered a straight-to-series adaptation of Step Up, with Tatum and Dewan aboard to produce.

Per Deadline, Step Up joins Tatum’s other recent TV efforts and eyes a production start later this year. Executive produced by the starring pair (as well as producers Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot and Meredith Milton), the series will debut on YouTube Red next year as the service’s first full-fledged original drama.

Not dissimilar from the initial 2006 film (in which Dewan starred alongside a then-unknown Tatum, before the two married in 2009), YouTube’s Step Up series is described as a heart-pounding, sexy, music-filled drama about dancers in a contemporary performing arts school.

In any case, you can check out a full listing of other shows coming to YouTube at the link above, but could Step Up carry the same magic without Dewan or Tatum (especially after all those sequels)? Watch the original trailer below.
