The media world has been abuzz today over a new release on Netflix, "Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes," which documents his interrogation tapes and interviews while in prison.  Why now? Today marks the 30th anniversary the world breathed a collective sigh of relief when convicted serial killer,Ted Bundy, breathed his last.

Documentary-lovers and True Crime fans alike will find this one a must-watch. Often we are wary of inadvertently "glorifying" sociopaths by shining a light too brightly in their direction. You may be happy to know this one doesn't have that effect, in my opinion.

Serial killers have always been cause for a dual focus of fear and fascination. But what is it about their stories that we find so compelling? One reason may be the safe exploration of a dark psyche that allows us insights into certain aspects of human nature we aren't comfortable discussing at holiday parties. The hope being, of course, that in this study we are able to glean new wisdom to discover these character deviations and intervene much, much more quickly in the future.

And what is it about Ted Bundy that made him seem even more insidious? Perhaps it was his "good looks," generally respectable upbringing, and alleged charismatic manner that blows our minds. How could someone like that be so utterly, deeply damaged to his core? He even once described himself as "the most cold-hearted son of a $@&* you'll ever meet." Even an attorney on his own team, Polly Nelson, noted that "Ted was the very definition of heartless evil." Whoa.
