Anticipation! Explosions! Dancing! Tonight’s episode of ‘Dancing with the Stars‘ on the surface was just a pure results night, figuring out which of the seven couples would be going home, but there were a couple of cool musical distractions along the way.

First they showed off the scoreboard in which Melissa Gilbert and Maskim Chmerkovskiy are the lowest scoring couple of the bunch, while Maria Menounos and Derek Hough are on top with the first perfect score of the season. So, since the two of them were the highlights of the dance floor last night, Len Goodman asked the two if they could perform the fiery dance which ends with Maria’s vampire being defeated by Derek’s vampire slayer. Don’t you just hate it when that happens?

After their performance, the judges decided which of the top ranked couples are safe: Maria Menounos and Derek Hough, William Levy and Cheryl Burke or Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd. Thankfully none of them are sent to the battle dance floor as the judges decide all are safe from the elimination round… this time.

In typical television fashion, we’re treated to a couple of different segments before they finally get down to the fierce battle between two couples who are vying to stay in the show. The first segment is the AT&T Spotlight Performance where we follow the story of Richard ‘Steelo’ Vasquez, a gifted dancer who suffered a nearly fatal brain aneurism that caused an almost complete loss of his ability to dance. If it weren’t for his rehabilitation and the support of his family and friends, they suggest he wouldn’t have made it. Tonight, for the first time in years, he was able to perform on the dance floor with his crew.

After that touching performance former ‘Dancing with the Stars’ competitor Gavin DeGraw sings his latest single “Sweeter” for a very happy audience. Take a look at it below.

Then we’re faced with the first annual Ballroom Battle, a side competition in which several unknown couples dance off in order to see who is the best of the new dancing bunch. In the end it comes down to three couples who are taught different short dance routines by professional dancers Cheryl Burke, Tony Dovolani and Louis van Amstel. The judges are pretty neutral with their comments to all of the dancers but decide that Cheryl’s group the best of them all.

Now we’re finally at the second half of our results battle in which two dancers will have to compete to stay on the show. Surprisingly they decide that Jaleel White and Kym Johnson were to face off against Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower. After the way that Melissa Gilbert acted like a complete diva when interviewed following her nearly abysmal performance yesterday, she doesn’t deserve to be “safe.” That and Roshon didn’t show any form of gentlemanly behavior when talking and practicing with Chelsie prior to the elimination round.

But sadly, in the end the two biggest divas of the night managed to be saved. Roshon got a unanimous vote from all of the judges thus sending poor Jaleel White home.

It’s all right Steve Urkel, we still love you!

Now only six couples remain. Who will stay next week and who will go home? Find out during the next episode of ‘Dancing with the Stars.’
