Looking around East Texas you can tell it's been quite a while since some areas have seen a decent amount of rainfall to sustain green vegetation. Seeing how the land in parts of the state are so dry, some county commissioners and courts have issued temporary burn bans for their counties. So far in East Texas there are only three counties that have enacted burn bans:

  • Anderson
  • Henderson
  • Van Zandt

With a current burn ban in effect, county residents are no longer able to burn trash or other debris. It only takes a spark, a single ember to get carried a mile away or more by wind currents to start a fire. Violators can be issued citations for ignoring the burn ban and face some pretty hefty and significant fines. Even if your county isn't under a burn ban, please still use caution when considering to burn anything outdoors. Hopefully the situation will change in East Texas late this week and throughout the weekend and early next week because the forecast is calling for a 30% chance of rain through at least Tuesday with a 50% chance of rain Saturday and Sunday!
