Police in Palestine are investigating a shooting Wednesday night that left a 31-year-old man wounded, possibly from a gun he was going to purchase.

According to the Palestine Herald-Press, officers were called to Palestine Regional Medical Center concerning a victim with a single gunshot wound to the right side.

Sgt. James Muniz, told the Herald-Press the victim, 31-year-old Edgar Torres of Palestine, was at Green’s Park looking at gun he was going to buy when it accidentally discharged, striking Torres in the side.

He arrived at the hospital in a private vehicle and is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

No other witnesses have come forward at the case remains under investigation.

The shooting took place around 9 p.m. Wednesday
