With summer behind us, the weather in East Texas is a bit more tolerable and definitely turning more favorable for our weekend events! Here's just a few things happening in East Texas this weekend:

The East Texas State Fair celebrates its 100th anniversary this year! Opening day is Friday, Sept. 25 and will run through Sunday, Oct. 4. The fair will feature entertainment for the entire family! From pig races, to concerts, to pyrotechnics shows and alligators, the East Texas State Fair will have it all, including the midway with tons of rides and games and food. East Texas native Kacey Musgraves is returning to her hometown of Mineola for a concert that will benefit all the art and music programs at Wood County schools. Musgraves, a Grammy and CMA Award winner who graduated from Mineola High School in 2006, released her new album Pageant Material in June and saw it quickly rise to No. 1 on the charts. Tickets can be purchased online here for $25, or they are $35 at the gate. VIP pit tickets are available for $150 and children ages 2 and under will be admitted free.

Celebrating the art of film making, as the Downtown Tyler Film Festival celebrates its fifth year and kicks off Wednesday night at Liberty Theater in downtown Tyler. You can catch screenings of short films made entirely here in East Texas, films created by East Texans and many others. The festival concludes Saturday evening with the "Best of the Fest." Tyler Parks and Recreation presents the 'Free Movies in the Park' series at Bergfeld Park in Tyler. This Saturday you can catch a special screening of 'Cinderella' in the amphitheater beginning at 8 p.m. for free!

Art We Walk On is a fundraising event for the Longview Museum of Fine Arts and will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Longview Museum of Fine Arts. The benefit will feature food, fun, drinks, silent auction and band. Exquisite art and area rugs will be on display throughout the museum. There is a cost associated with attending this event.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Carnival

This special carnival is a fundraising event that will benefit childhood cancer research. The carnival is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 27 at the T-3 Ranch. The carnival will feature hayrides, games, face paintings, snacks and hot dogs with a cost of $25 per family that will go towards childhood cancer research.
