Ed Sheeran recently performed at Le Trianon in Paris, where he surprised the crowd with an acoustic performance of One Direction's 'Little Things.'

Although fans traditionally scream and sing along to a track they love, Sheeran wanted to do it differently this time around. "I want to see how quiet we can get the room, and I want to sing it totally acoustic, if that's cool," he said.

On the first attempt, the 21-year-old stepped away from the mic and began strumming the initial chords to the song, but when he sang the first words, the crowd burst out yelling and laughing. "Or, I could not play the song," Sheeran joked. The friendly threat worked, and he was able to sing the ballad in a completely silent room.

Music fans know the song as a 1D cut, and the latest single from the boy band, but the British singer-songwriter originally penned the tune, which is included on One Direction's chart-topping sophomore album, 'Take Me Home.'

Last week, 'Little Things' took the No. 1 spot on the U.K. singles chart, beating out Bruno Mars' 'Locked Out of Heaven' and Little Mix's 'DNA,' which came in at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
