Millions of teachers all over the world know their incredibly underpaid jobs can be pretty thankless at times. But Ellen DeGeneres gave back in a big way to one teacher who gives so much of herself.

Sonya Romero is a kindergarten teacher in Albuquerque, N.M., who is the embodiment of a teacher who goes above and beyond for her kids.

Every day she makes sure every student in her class has eaten breakfast and has on clean clothes. If not, she makes it happen.

When two students at the school were in a family crisis and needed an emergency home because of a CPS situation, Romero immediately took them in. What was supposed to be a short-term thing became a months-long endeavor, but she didn't complain.

When Ellen DeGeneres heard about Sonya, she had to have her on her show. You don't see Ellen cry much, but she couldn't help it this time.

Then Sonya gets a gift of a lifetime.
