Eminem will drop ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2′ on Nov. 5 and it’s a welcome return. While Em’s recent records addressed his addictions, relapses and recoveries, and were full of hits, the new album finds the iconic rapper as angry and as clever as ever while he spits rhymes.

In his Billboard cover feature, he admitted to being possessed of the same venom now as he was way back when. “When I was making records, I would just take my frustrations out about that,” he said. “I mean, f—, here it is 2013 and I still don’t really have a total grasp on it yet and understand it.”

He chose to name this record ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2′ since it is revisits the topics of its 2000-released predecessor, since Em felt he had to take stock of “themes and chapters that I felt like I hadn’t closed.”

Em realizes that fans and critics may not find it up to snuff when compared to its watershed prequel, explaining, “I knew that it would have to match a certain intensity and vibe and feel in order to call it ['The Marshall Mathers LP 2']. I want to say I’m confident that I’ve done that, but it’s up to the listener to decide.”

On the album, he addresses the price of fame and his fractured relations with women, namely his mother, taking care to point out that his daughters are the only women he adores.

But Em, who says that making music is all he knows, isn’t trying to satisfy anyone, least of all society. He still oversimplified his contributions to culture. “I kind of just make what I make and however people take to it is how they take to it, or don’t take to it,” he reasoned.

He also espoused his love of rap wunderkind Kendrick Lamar, who appears on ‘MMLP2,’ saying, “He seems like this kid that’s just full of life and happy to be here. The impact he’s had over just the last couple of years. It’s been really fun for me to watch.”
