Jermaine Paul advanced to next week’s finals for Team Blake Shelton on tonight’s (May 1) elimination/results episode of ‘The Voice,’ which meant that birthday girl Erin Willett was voted off and sent home.

Before revealing how he split the points for his two vocalists, Shelton said, “Jermaine took a huge step, walking away from a really good gig,” referencing the singer’s former gig as an Alicia Keys backup vocalist. He also said, “Erin has been through a personal hell and back, losing her father. But she stands there and she has so much strength.”

The country star proclaimed that he loved both of them, calling them two of the best vocalists on the planet. “I hope I get a picture,” he joked.

He gave them each 50 points a piece, deciding to leave the choice up to America. “There is not an ego standing on that stage, besides Carson,” he said, jabbing at the host. “I don’t want to be a part of this decision-making process anymore. They’ve done everything they can do. I’ve done everything I can do. Now it’s up to America.”

America chose Paul by a huge margin, too.

That doesn’t mean it’s the end of the road for Willett. While it’s true that it’s the end of her tenure on a reality TV competition –- and on her birthday, no less — she has too much talent to be ignored. See ya soon, Erin!

Paul will represent Shelton in next week’s finals. Good luck, Jermaine!
