One of the Old West's biggest shootouts will be recreated in downtown Longview on Saturday, April 16th during Dalton Days that will also feature Wild West shows, blacksmith demonstrations, activities and more. This annual event centers around Bill Dalton and three gang members that rode into Longview on May 23rd in 1894 to rob the First National Bank. During the bank robbery approximately 200 shots were fired off between the bandits and law enforcement and other civilians. Bill Dalton escaped with a couple of other robbers and around $2,000 in bank notes and coins. All of the members were eventually tracked down and killed by law enforcement or posses.

The Gregg County Historical Museum has been hosting Dalton Days since its creation in 1994 and continues to recreate the famous bank robbery in downtown at Fredonia and Bank streets. This years' event will be held Saturday, April 16th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is free for the public to attend. There are activities for the kids, including a petting zoo, face painting, fingerprinting from Longview Police Department, stick horse races and more! There will also be vendor booths to visit and concessions available and of course, the re-enactment of the big bank robbery!
