Experience the everyday magic of Jane Austen's world in this one-of-a-kind Regency resort. Visit the quaint acreage of Mansfield Theme Park, get into an Empire waist state of mind, and partake in exquisitely historical activities, from Calligraphic Letter-Writing to Meeting the Landed Gentleman Of Your Dreams. - Austenlandfilm.com

Austenland does not exist as theme destination, at least not to my knowledge, but it does exist as a novel and has been adapted into a feature film which releases today in New York and L.A.

Haven't heard of it? That's likely because it's not scheduled for release in East Texas, but on Aug. 30th you could drive to Dallas or Plano to watch it, or we could all wait for Netflix or Redbox to make the film available on DVD. One way or another I intend to watch this film.

I, unlike the character from the film, am not obsessed with Jane Austen, but I do have a healthy admiration of her works and the movies that her novels have inspired. Some of these films have become favorites, Pride and Prejudice starring Keira Knightley, as well as the BBC mini-series starring Colin Firth. I also very much enjoyed the Bridget Jones's Diary films which were inspired by dear Jane.

Another great example is Lost in Austen, a British TV mini-series, which aired in 2008 and is available on Netflix.

Jane Austen is truly an inspiration. In 2007, her life became the story in Becoming Jane starring Anne Hathaway and James McAvoy. How about another video on this Feel Good Friday? We may not actually be able to travel to a Jane Austen inspired destination, but we can enjoy a small dose of inspired escapism.
