In news that was bound to happen sooner than later, the organizers of the Fyre Festival are being sued for $100 million. Rapper Ja Rule and Billy McFarland have been named as defendants in a class action lawsuit that claims that their lack of preparation was part of a scheme that threatened the safety of the attendees.

Rolling Stone received a copy of the paperwork, which states that their "outrageous failure to prepare, coupled with Defendants' deliberate falsehoods in promoting the island 'experience,' demonstrates that the Fyre Festival was nothing more than a get-rich-quick scam from the very beginning."

The lawyer for attendee Daniel Jung wrote that the Fyre Festival's "lack of adequate food, water, shelter, and medical care created a dangerous and panicked situation among attendees — suddenly finding themselves stranded on a remote island without basic provisions — that was closer to The Hunger Games or Lord of the Flies than Coachella."

As we learned over the weekend, it became apparent to those who were on-site in the weeks leading up to the festival that it take a Herculean effort to pull it off in time. The plaintiff appears to use those reports to say that the organizers were indifferent to the well-being of the attendees and cared more about those who had been contracted to appear at the event.

"Shockingly, Defendants had been aware for months that their festival was dangerously under-equipped and posed a serious danger to anyone in attendance. More troublingly, Mr. McFarland and [Ja Rule] began personally reaching out to performers and celebrities in advance of the festival and warned them not to attend — acknowledging the fact that the festival was outrageously underequipped and potentially dangerous for anyone in attendance."

The defendants have yet to comment on the suit, but McFarland previously admitted that they were "a little naive" in the amount of preparation necessary, while Ja Rule accepted responsibility and said he was working to make sure everyone receives a refund.
