For more than three months now East Texans have received a huge break at the pump because of falling gas prices. I for one can say I'm really liking these lower gas prices because three and a half months ago I was paying $75 to $80 every week and a half to two weeks to fill up my truck where now it's nearly half that.

I was in the Dallas metroplex over the weekend and really noticed a price difference between our prices and theirs. When I left East Texas our prices were right around $1.98 a gallon and when I drove through Dallas, Lancaster, Duncanville, Grand Prairie and Arlington along I-20 the gas stations along the interstate were advertising gas at $1.83 a gallon. Typically gas prices are higher near the interstate too! I happily though filled up the truck and only charged $42 to my credit card! After checking some gas price websites it seems that gas prices here in East Texas are still on the high side because in Shreveport their prices are very similar to Dallas prices.

I know its only a matter of time before our prices (hopefully) get that low. However, it's a bit bitter sweet though, because I know oil is big part of the East Texas economy and with the drop in oil prices, there are those in the oil field that are being laid off and jobs are being lost. I feel bad for those affected, hopefully a happy medium will be achieved through all of this.

Let me know how much you're paying for a gallon of gas and where you've found it the cheapest by leaving me the details in the comment section below.
