I'm generally pleasantly surprised when I open my homepage to Google and find a doodle, but today I'm even more excited, because it celebrates the life the of costume designer, Edith Head.

She is well-known for her great work in costume design which garnered her eight Academy Awards - more than any other woman. Even more impressive, she was nominated 35 times, including every year from 1948 through 1966.

She is so distinctive that her likeness has even been featured films like, Disney Pixar's The Incredibles. The character Edna is thought to be an homage to the designer - notice the characteristic round frame glasses and blunt bangs.

She designed brilliant costumes for Hollywood's leading ladies during the golden years including: Ginger Rogers, Ingrid Bergman, Bette Davis, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly - just to name a few.

See Edith describe her craft in her own words as she describes how the wardrobe can help the actress transform, as it did with Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday.

Edith won one of her Oscars for Roman Holiday. She also won for The Heiress, Samson and Delilah, All About Eve, A Place in the Sun, Sabrina, The Facts of Life, and The Sting.
