Green Day keep things simple in their new video for ‘Oh Love,’ with a performance in a dingy recording space while a group of attractive ladies looks on.

The action unfolds slowly, just like the music in ‘Oh Love.’ For nearly the entire first verse, viewers see only slow-motion shots of hot models giving their sexiest poses and caressing each other’s hair. Finally, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong steps up to the mic and begins singing the catchy track. Drummer Tre Cool and bassist Mike Dirnt join in as the song goes on.

The women looking on could all be described as having an alternative style, with their numerous tattoos and unconventional hairstyles. They’re clearly not here to make a love connection happen with any of the guys. Instead, they seem content to lie around and enjoy the music.

Poor Jason White, Green Day’s touring guitarist for more than a decade, stands off in the corner and gets only a few seconds of face time, mostly in the form of blurry, distant shots. Those who appreciate the not-quite-official band member status of touring musicians may be amused by how most of the performance shots are framed to keep him just outside the range of the camera while Armstrong, Dirnt and Tre do their thing.

The clip was directed by legendary director Samuel Bayer, who has filmed memorable videos for more than 20 years, from Nirvana‘s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ to Justin Timberlake‘s ‘What Goes Around…Comes Around.’ This time, with no plot to work with, his focus was on making the girls look hot and the room look gritty.

‘Oh Love’ is the first offering from Green Day’s ‘¡Uno!’ ‘¡Dos!’ ‘¡Tre!’ album trilogy and became just the third song in history to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Rock Songs chart. Armstrong told MTV, “‘Oh Love’ is kind of like leading with your heart and not necessarily with your brain as much. And kind of maybe losing your mind and shooting a little bit more from the crotch area.”
