Reports of one death and 17 illnesses has prompted the recall of over 132,000 pounds of Cargill ground beef.

According to the USDA, the ground beef was produced and packaged on June 21, 2018 and it will have the establishment number EST. 86R inside the USDA mark of inspection on the package. The ground beef was shipped nationwide.

Federal and state health investigators were notified of possible illnesses on August 16 and started an investigation that determined that ground beef was the probable source. Further investigation linked one death and 17 illnesses to ground beef products purchased at various retail stores supplied by Cargill Meat Solutions.

Those who are infected by this strain of E. coli could develop bloody diarrhea and vomiting, which may lead to a serious infection.

Consumers that have this meat in their freezers are urged to either throw the product away or return it to the store where purchased for a refund.
