Summer vacation is upon us, and whether you are heading near or far, make a stop in Crystal City, Texas. It is known as the "Spinach Capital of the World" according to texasescapes.com. Also, in front of City Hall is a statue of Popeye.

The town thrived during the great depression with it's spinach crop thanks in large part to the cartoon Popeye according to roadsideamerica.com. It is still a major producer of spinach.

In 1937, with the blessing of Popeye creator, E. C. Segar, the town erected a statue of Popeye. The statue still sits in front of City Hall.

Take a trip this summer, eat some spinach and visit Popeye. No guarantees you will get instant muscles after eating it.
