Heather Brown, the East Texas mother who went into a coma while giving birth to her son two years ago, spoke for the first time since this week in nearly a year.

According to a post by Heather's husband, Sean, on the Bringing Home the Browns Facebook page, here's what happened:

John had wonderful birthday with his Momma. His vocabulary is expanding every day. Heather is doing well. For the first time in nearly a year she tried to speak. John was standing by her bed waving " bye- bye," when I heard her make a noise. I asked her to do it again, because it sounded familiar. I waited a few seconds after asking and I heard her say John in faint tone. She did this twice more during the day. She is also begging to move certain extremities on command again. Thank you so much to those that sent John birthday gifts. He enjoys them very much. Thank you to all the followers and prayer warriors. I will post again as soon as possible.

Their son, John, celebrated his second birthday on Sept. 15, the day his mother slipped into a coma after experiencing major seizures from a brain bleed. John was born by C-section.

Sean was overseas serving in Afghanistan for the National Guard when Heather went to the hospital. He was flown home to be with Heather and John, and he has been at his wife's side ever since.
