Reuters is reporting that Brookshire's Grocery Co. is looking into a sale of its 150-plus stores in Texas, Louisana and Arkansas in a deal that could be worth $1 billion.

According to KLTV, who contacted Brookshire's for further comment, would neither confirm nor deny the report.

“There’s really nothing I can say,” spokesperson Rebecca Sanders told the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

The deal would be for more than 150 Brookshire's and Super 1 Foods stores, as well as the flagship Fresh By Brookshire's store in Tyler.

Brookshire's has been a part of East Texas since 1928 not only as a grocery store, but as its presence in the community increased, so did its community outreach. From the Brookshire's Wildlife Museum, to donating to the East Texas Food Bank, to taking East Texas war veterans to monuments built in their honor in Washington D.C.

Brookshire's employs more than 15,000 people, with the majority of them in East Texas.

Nothing has been confirmed as of yet but according to the Reuters report, but some larger food chains are interested in buying, including Albertson's.

If Brookshire's does sell, what chain would you like to see buy it?
