Joe Jonas raised a lot of eyebrows (and got a lot of side eye) for his New York magazine essay in which he basically penned a tell-all about his time as a Jonas Brother -- and threw Miley Cyrus and ex Demi Lovato under the bus in the process.

But it's all good, because he feels great about it.

"I feel really relieved actually," he told Us Weekly. "I was very nervous releasing it. I hit kind of an anxiety wall where I was like, 'S---, am I about to do this? This is kind of nerve-wracking,'" he confessed. "But then you just look at it on a different scale. You're like, 'This is my life and this is my story for myself to tell whoever is interested and let them inside the crazy life I've lived!'"

What did his brothers think of the essay? They were pleased with it -- in part because Jonas cleared it with Nick and Kevin beforehand. "I think it's sensitive for someone so close to you to release. I wanted to make sure I spoke to them ahead of time and give them a heads-up that this is coming out," he said. "They had a very cool reaction to it. My brother Nick was like, 'Hey dude, it's your interview.' That kind of speaks for itself. I felt really good about releasing it."

And are he and Lovato still cool? "Yeah absolutely!" he gushed. "I saw her yesterday. Demi and I are good friends and we have been friends for years."

You know, except when he shafted her for Ashley Greene. But that's just water under the bridge, right?
