Adolescents with Questionable Taste Make Justin Bieber This Year’s Most Tweeted-About Celeb

He may not have been nominated for any Grammys or topped this year's Google searches, but at least tween sensation Justin Bieber won where it really counts: on Twitter. But since at least half those tweets were probably mocking him or lamenting his breakup with Selena Gomez, we're not entirely sure that's much of a win after all.

The Biebs scored the No. 1 spot on the list as the most tweeted-about celeb, followed by One Direction members Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson -- proving once and for all that Twitter is overrun by hormonal teenage girls.

1D (as they've been dubbed by their squealing fans) also gained the most followers for the year. Between the members and their official Twitter account, the guys added an additional 5 to 7 million followers each.

If only they had a dollar for every follower they have. Wait, they probably do.

Whitney Houston's death came in as the top tweeted-about event with almost 74,000 tweets a minute dedicated to the singer after her sudden passing in February. The MTV Video Music Awards and the Emmys came in next, followed by the birth of Beyonce and Jay-Z's daughter Blue Ivy and Kate Middleton's pregnancy announcement -- two events that drew more than 2 million tweets between them.

As for which music stars trended most heavily on Twitter this year, Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown made the list. And if you think tweets about the Biebs aren't very nice, you should see what people say about them.
