Mike Veeck, president of the Charleston RiverDogs minor league baseball team, organized a ‘Disco Demolition’ of Justin and Miley’s music on Saturday night (July 19). The post-game event was a follow-up to the original ‘Disco Demo’ of 1979, where fans who turned up to a Chicago White Sox game with a disco record received a lower admission price.
For the second demo round, named ‘You Better Belieb It,’ baseball fans who attended with a Justin or Miley album or piece of merch were admitted to the game for $1, according to the Hollywood Reporter. After the game, a wooden box (painted like a boombox) filled with the collected goods was blown up in center field.
Though the team’s General Manager Dave Echols insisted the event was “all in good fun,” he added that the ‘Disco Demolition’ was “dedicated to the eradication of their dread musical disease.”
“Like so many, we have taken special exception to Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus’ music, along with his numerous run-ins with the law and her controversial performances,” Echols explained. “We are going to take Bieber and Cyrus’ merchandise and memorabilia, put it in a giant box and blow it to smithereens.”
