February is Heart Month and The East Texas Medical Center Cardiovascular Institute will hold a free heart health fair from 8 to 11 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 12). The heart fair will be at the ETMC Pavilion, 801 Clinic Drive, in Tyler. This is an excellent chance to receive free services to check your cholesterol and blood glucose, blood pressure, carotid artery, ankle-brachial index, electrocardiogram, body fat, heart rate and pulse oximetry screenings, plus health information and giveaways.

This year you need to RSVP, so if you're planning on attending, please call ETMC HealthFirst at 800-648-8141 and press 2.

Here's a few reasons why you should take the time to attend the heart fair:

  • According to the Centers for Disease Control, heart disease is a major problem. Every year, about 715,000 Americans have a heart attack. About 600,000 people die from heart disease in the United States each year—that’s one out of every four deaths.
  • Heart disease runs in my family -- on both sides! My grandfather suffered from a severe stroke that left him unable to talk or walk, my mother and several aunts and uncles have had bypass surgeries, and my older brother died of a massive heart attack at the age of 45. So, you could say that the heart, is close to my heart!

RSVP now, and take advantage of these free heart screenings, they just might save your life.
