Lana Del Rey’s ‘Born to Die’ Debuts at No. 2 While Adele Stays at No. 1

Lana Del Rey may have her detractors, but she also has a ton of people genuinely interested in her music — at least 77,000 of them, based on the first-week sales figures of her album ‘Born to Die,’ which soars into the No. 2 position on the Billboard 200, just behind Adele‘s ’21.’

The No. 2 debut was expected based on early-week sales projections. Despite her shaky ‘SNL’ performance and conflicting rumors about whether her tour has been canceled, fans are responding to tracks like ‘Video Games’ and ‘Off to the Races.’

Adele’s ’21′ sold 122,000 copies to hold down No. 1 for the 19th week. That’s the longest reign in the top position since 1992, when Whitney Houston‘s ‘The Bodyguard’ soundtrack spent 20 weeks at No. 1.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Leonard Cohen, perhaps best-known as the composer of the classic ballad ‘Hallelujah,’ enters at No. 3 with ‘Old Ideas.’ The 2012 Grammy Nominees compilation takes No. 4, while Drake, LMFAO and Rihanna remain strong in the Top 10.

The other noteworthy appearance on the chart is Madonna‘s most recent hits collection, ‘Celebration.’ Following her entertaining performance at the Super Bowl, the 2009 album saw a more than 1000% increase in sales to return to the chart at No. 24.
