Lelia Broussard Eliminated, Suzanna Choffel Advances for Team Blake on ‘The Voice’ with ‘Dog Days Are Over’

Talent certainly wasn’t an issue for Team Blake on ‘The Voice’ tonight (Oct. 15), as Lelia Broussard and Suzanna Choffel belted out an intense duet of ‘Dog Days Are Over’ by Florence + the Machine.

The two women lead very different lives – Broussard is an indie artist struggling to make it on her own, whereas Suzanna is a music teacher – but they have one surefire thing in common: they both really know how to sing. “It’s the most obvious pairing for a battle that I’ve ever seen,” coach Blake Shelton remarked.

With the help of Shelton and guest mentor Michael Buble, the singers geared up for the battle round. Shelton urged Choffel out of her rigid music-teacher box and cautioned Broussard on pitch control. “There’s absolutely no forgiveness on television,” he said in regard to their upcoming performance.

“You both have talent overflowing,” judge Cee Lo Green said when it came time to choose the winner. Adam Levine praised both of them but clearly favored Choffel, stating that he could have kicked himself for not having fought harder for her during her blind audition.

Shelton was torn, but in the end, he said, “I think Suzanna won this battle – I’m gonna go with Suzanna.” He appreciated her ability to be a musical chameleon while still allowing her unique inner voice to shine through.

Broussard held her own during the battle round but was ultimately eliminated.
