TYLER — Three suspects, including a local standout high school football player, have been arrested for shooting several people with blow darts.

Tyler police were called to Walmart on Troup Highway just before 9 p.m. Monday and contacted two victims who had been struck by the darts while standing in the parking lot. Both victims had darts stuck in them about one inch deep. A description of the suspect’s car led police to their arrest a short time later at a Dairy Queen on Highway 64 East. Police recovered a blow dart gun and darts from the suspects’ vehicle. The victims were treated for their injuries at the scene.

Charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon were Matthew Arnold, 18, Kasey McClendon, 17, and Gregory Smith, 17. McClendon was a star running back and defensive back for the Arp football team last season, helping the Tigers to the Class 2A state quarterfinal round.

Two men hurt in East Texas Biomass Plant Accident

SACUL, TX. - An explosion at a biomass plant in East Texas has left two workers critically injured. Emergency personnel in Nacogdoches County say the accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. today at a facility in Sacul, located northeast of Houston. Authorities say the accident apparently involved some type of electrical fire and explosion. The exact cause is under investigation.

Man Falls Through Attic Chasing ‘Imaginary Person’

TYLER — A Tyler man who was allegedly on drugs has been accused of falling from the attic of his home and into a neighbor’s water heater closet below. Tyler police say 30-year-old Kyle Williams was apparently chasing an “imaginary person” into his attic when the incident occurred yesterday. Williams was jailed on a trespassing charge. Police recovered the suspect’s wallet inside the utility closet.

 

Police Uncover 33,000 Pounds of Marijuana

EDINBURG — U.S. Border Patrol agents in South Texas seized nearly 33,000 pounds of marijuana over the weekend. A Border Patrol statement says the biggest bust came Sunday, when agents and Starr County sheriff’s deputies seized more than three tons of pot at a ranch house near Garciasville. The patrol values the marijuana seized in Sunday’s bust at more than $5.7 million.

 

Car Crashes into House, on Top of Sleeping Man

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A Connecticut man only wishes this were a nightmare. A police chase ended early this morning in New Haven, with a car crashing into a house and coming to rest on top of a sleeping man. Thirty-four-year-old Michael Sweat was pinned under vehicle for about an hour while firefighters worked to free him. Authorities say he suffered burns but no life-threatening injuries.

 

More Than 2 Million Votes Expected in Primary

MIAMI — The polls are open in Florida and Republican officials say they expect more than 2 million votes to be cast in today’s presidential primary. Mitt Romney entered the balloting as the resurgent front-runner, while Newt Gingrich says Romney’s jump in the polls is just the result of big spending on negative ads.

‘Eye of the Tiger’ Writer Wants Gingrich to Stop

CHICAGO — The man who wrote the “Rocky III” anthem “Eye of the Tiger” wants Newt Gingrich to stop using his song at campaign events. A federal lawsuit filed Monday contends that Gingrich has been using the song since 2009 without the permission of Frank Sullivan, who composed the song with Jim Peterik and had it copyrighted in 1982.
