Yesterday afternoon, my daughter wanted to make cake pops for the first time, little did I know it would nearly be an all day project! I had no idea on how to make them so I turned to my good friend Google and found a recipe along with step by step instructions. I didn't realize that you had to bake the cake first and then crumble it up, add frosting, roll them into balls, freeze them and then dip them in melted chocolate. I was thinking you used one of those mini ice cream scoops and scooped the ball out of the baked cake! That is far from it.

We had all the ingredients to make the cake pops except for the candy chips to cover them with, so off to the store we went and thankfully we got more than we needed because upon melting the blue chips, I burnt the entire bag of them in the microwave! See, they didn't look like they were melting so I increased the time in the microwave and soon a black blob was forming on the side of the bowl and it smelled pretty bad and I instantly knew I burned them and ruined the entire bag! When it came time for the second attempt, I was trying to melt the yellow ones, I did it in increments of 30 seconds and stirred it everytime and everything came out great. A lesson well learned in the kitchen!

My daughter was all about making these. She made the cake, baked it, crumbled it, stirred in nearly a can of frosting and dipped about 15 of the cake balls and sprinkled them and then she was over it! We were left with about 30 unfinished cake balls, so I had to come in and finish them up with the help of my wife and saved the day!

Our combined finished products are depicted in the picture above. I think they turned out looking pretty good for a first attempt!
