In an interview with Barbara Walters that aired on ABC's Nightline last night Mariah Carey called the American Idol set, "an unsafe work environment". She made those remarks in reference to the video that surfaced from TMZ showing Nicki Minaj releasing a tirad of comments on her fellow judge during the audition process for the show's 12th season.

In a previous segment of the talk show The View, Barbara revealed that Mariah told her that Nicki had threatened her while on the set but Nicki denied the statement. Mariah confirmed the statement she made to Barbara on last nights episode of Nightline. She tells Barbara Walters, "It felt like an unsafe work environment. Anytime anybody's reeling threats at somebody, it's not appropriate. I'm a professional. I'm not used to that type of environment." Mariah also admits to hiring additional security after the incident but since then the waters have calmed between the two.

During the interview, Mariah also opens up about motherhood and talks about her twins and her husbands near death experience after suffering through an auto-immune disease.

Mariah is looking forward to the new season of American Idol, which debuts Wednesday, January 16th on Fox, and says Idol is "ultimately about the contestants" and is looking forward to helping discover new talent.
