A couple known for their pop culture-related YouTube videos have released a cover of Maroon 5‘s ‘Payphone’ that pays homage to the classic film ‘E.T.’ on the 30th anniversary of its release.

Chad Nikolaus and Angie Griffin, known as the Screen Team, traveled to some of the original filming locations in southern California for their parody, which turns the Maroon 5 line “I’m at a payphone” into “E.T. say phone home.” Screen shots from the movie are inserted into the video next to current shots of the team at the same playgrounds and residential neighborhoods.

Surprisingly, many of the locations look exactly the same three decades later. The performers even meet up with the guy who currently lives in “Elliott’s house” in the movie. “Real nice guy!” they say in the video.

The song tells the story of the lovable alien with lyrics about his glowing finger and love of Reese’s Pieces and a mention of John Williams, who composed the score. The track recreates the catchy chorus from ‘Payphone,’ which is currently the No. 3 song in the country for Maroon 5 and guest rapper Wiz Khalifa.

The classic film directed by Steven Spielberg became the highest-grossing movie of all-time after its release in 1982 and remains among the Top 10 in U.S. box office revenue. ‘E.T.’ will be re-released in remastered form with new extra features on Blu-ray Oct. 20.
