During a check presentation ceremony held on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016 in Tyler, representatives of Walgreens Co. presented Meals on Wheels Ministry with a donation of $1,500.00.

“Our mission is to deliver nutritious meals, safety checks and other services that enable seniors and disabled citizens to remain in their own homes,” said Mike Powell, Meals on Wheels Ministry (MOWM) President and CEO. “This donation will provide a full year of home delivered meal service to a client living in East Texas.”

Brett McAnally, Walgreens Co. District Manager, says that part of the corporate culture within Walgreens Co. is a strong commitment to giving back to those in need, particularly those living in communities where Walgreens stores are located. “Walgreens chose to donate to Meals on Wheels Ministry because of the support the organization provides to a very deserving population in our local community,” said Mr. McAnally. “The work of Meals on Wheels aligns with our mission of helping people stay happy and healthy.”

“We are grateful to Walgreens for their support,” Mr. Powell says. “We share a lot of the same clients, and it’s a very meaningful gesture on the part of this company to give back to the community in support of elderly and disabled people who need help from us both.”

Walgreens Co. has supported the work of Meals on Wheels Ministry in different ways over several years’ time, with activities ranging from donation drives and mobile flu clinics, to serving as collection points for Meals on Wheels Ministry’s “Santa’s for Seniors Gift Drive.”

“I really enjoy the fact that we give back to our local community organizations,” said Mr. McAnally. “We have enjoyed working with Meals on Wheels over the last four or five years, and we look forward to continued support in the future.”

Meals on Wheels Ministry currently serves 3,000 seniors and homebound individuals in 30 communities across six counties including Gregg, Henderson, Smith, Upshur, Van Zandt, and Wood counties.

Meals on Wheels Ministry is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing good, nutritious meals, daily contacts, and other support services that enable senior citizens and disabled persons to remain independent and living in their own homes as long as possible.
