Michael Jackson’s New ‘Scream’ CD Contains ‘Augmented Reality’ Experience
Today, Michael Jackson is releasing Scream, a compilation of some of his most danceable hits. Those who purchase it on CD or vinyl will be able to be taken into an immersive "augmented reality" experience on their smartphones or tablets via the Shazam app.
Inside the CD booklet is a fold-out poster, and those who scan the code found on the insert with their camera through Shazam will be able to access the experience pointing their device at the poster. You can see a video tutorial of the process at Jackson's website. A five-song mashup courtesy of the White Panda called “Blood on the Dance Floor X Dangerous,” which is a bonus track on Scream, is incorporated into the fun.
Those who live in major cities can access a second AR experience through posters and billboards that will begin appearing today. This is the first time Shazam has worked one of their AR projects into a CD or vinyl release, and their first global AR initiative.
However, those who want the vinyl copy of Scream will have to wait until Oct. 27, when it will be released in a special glow-in-the-dark two-LP set. It can be pre-ordered at Amazon.
Jackson is also putting out a remix of his hit "Thriller" by famed DJ Steve Aoki. You can stream it at Spotify.
