My First Part Time Job Paid $2.85 An Hour — What About You?

The other day I was thinking back about my first part-time job and thought about how much fun it was! I was 16 years old when I entered the job market and was really excited that I was going to get a paycheck and have money of my own.

My first job was at Six Flags Over Texas earning $2.85 an hour. When people find out my first job was at Six Flags, the first question I get is, "What ride did you work on?" I never got to run a ride or check the lap belts or restraining bars on any roller coaster, instead I worked in the games department.

I was one of the guys that took your money and wished you good luck on getting the ring on the bottle, the hula hoop around the square block and popping the balloons. It was a fun job and hot, too. I got to meet a lot of interesting people and a lot of my good friends today are ones that I worked with at Six Flags.

I also held down a second part-time job while working at Six Flags and going to school too, but that job wasn't as fun as working at Six Flags. I worked my up the chain of command at Six Flags and ended up leaving there for my career in radio!
