To honor National Fishing and Boating Week, the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens will be marking the occasion by making a family fishing trip affordable with free admission for kids 12 and under with free fishing for the whole family too on Saturday, June 1st. The day will also feature free hot dogs and drinks from 9a to 4p and will also play host to a kids catfishing tournament at the casting pond where they can win prizes!

In addition to free fishing, The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens also offers to families the opportunity to walk through the wetlands trail, see a diver hand feed fish and learn about history of fishing in the freshwater fishing museum.

National Fishing and Boating Week was designed to encourage families to spend time together on and around the water and on the first Saturday in June, anyone in the State of Texas can fish without being required to show a fishing license and is designated as Free Sportfishing Day.
