Tyler is getting a new traffic light right after the Christmas holiday.

This is a busy travel weekend, and the constant buzz on the roads should hit a lull between Christmas and New Year's Eve. That will give drivers in Tyler a chance to ease into the habit of stopping at one extra place near TJC and UT Tyler.

The new traffic signal will become active at the intersection of Golden Road and McDonald Road on Wednesday the 26th.

The goal is to make travel safer to and from Tyler Junior College, Moore Middle School and The University of Texas at Tyler. Bicyclists that use routes 9 and 12 also converge on that intersection and the intent is to make it safer for them, and also for those who use Golden Road Park, like little league players and their parents.

We just wanted to give you the heads up, so you won't be surprised when classes start again in January.
