When Phillip Phillips was announced the winner of Season 11 of ‘American Idol‘ last night, with a record 132 million votes, he was stunned. Visibly stunned. Post-win, Phillips said, “It hasn’t sunk in yet.”

He tried to perform his single ‘Home,’ but stopped, overwhelmed and overcome with emotion, breaking down in tears amid confetti. He walked off the stage and hugged his family. It was a beautiful moment, since we always think it’s cruel for producers to expect a winner to perform after a life-changing moment such as this. They need a minute to compose themselves, especially after a grueling season.

Ace Showbiz reports that the singer said that he was numb and didn’t think he was going to win. “It’s such a blessing to have, I’m kinda ready to try and comprehend it all,” he admitted. “After I won, I wasn’t thinking about anything… I wasn’t wanting to sing or anything. I just started thinking about the journey and how far all of us have come and how far we made it, it’s so overwhelming.”

Remember, Phillips has a kidney condition and is in desperate need of surgery.

Runner-up Jessica Sanchez was “relived that this whole thing is over” and threw mad props at Phillips. She was gracious in defeat, saying, “I think that Phillip really deserved to win. He’s worked harder than any of us. He’s had to keep up with his health issues with his kidneys, and I think he’s been through it a lot more than us mentally and physically.”

Bebe Chez will be scooped up by a label in no time. She said, “I’ve been in this Idol bubble and now it’s popped, so I don’t know what’s going to happen to me, but I’m excited to find out.”

E! reports that last night marked the least watched finale ever, but despite such a dismal classification, it was still the most watched show of the night and the most viewed entertainment program since the Oscars, which broadcast back in February.

The finale still drew 21.5 million viewers, which is not too shabby, either. The show’s finale ratings have been in decline in recent years, so it’s relative.
